Cruise for a Cause - March 6th

Bike ride across the Causeway benefitting Humane Society of South Coastal Georgia

15-mile Causeway Cruise -- 1-mile Fun Ride for Kids This event is not a race or competition.

9:00 – Registration at Monkeywrench Bicycles, 1700 Frederica Road, St. Simons Island

$30 donation includes t-shirt, lunch from Shane’s Rib Shack and Festival Admission

10:00 – 15-Mile Causeway Cruise Begins

10:00 – Festival Opens at Gascoigne Park Open to the Public, $5 per person donation

11:00 – Frisbee Dogs Performance

11:45 – K-9 Police Demonstration

12:00 – Dog Contest $5 entry fee before March 4 at HSSCG or Monkey Wrench. $10 day of event. Categories include Best Costume, Best Trick, Guardian/Pet Look-A-Like, Happiest, Ugliest Dog and Cutest Dog

1:00 – 1-Mile Fun Ride for Kids $10 donation includes Festival admission and post-ride ice cream party

2:00 – Frisbee Dogs Encore Performance

All Day – Bounce house, face painting, activities for kids, animals for adoption & concessions

"Salty Dog Sunday" Event - 3/21 at 5pm- 9pm - The Club at Bennie's Red Barn

Buy your tickets now for the 2nd Annual "Salty Dog Sunday" fundraising event at the Club at Bennie's Red Barn on SSI -- the event raises funds for the Glynn County 4-H Advisory Council! Tickets are $10 each and get you in the door to see two SUPER FANTASTIC local bands - "The Three of Us" and "Dennis and the Menace" AND get you all-you-can-eat BBQ! There will also be live and silent auctions and door prize give-aways. All proceeds benefit Glynn County 4-H activities. GITCers last year had a great time and danced the night away.

GITC focuses on running, walking and jogging. GITC actively promotes exercise through a variety of ways. Weekly group runs/walks are open to both members and non-members alike. Members can take advantage of organized "fun runs," take part in race participation and attend monthly educational and business meetings.

* Weekly Fun Runs are held every Thursday night (except for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Eve) in the Pier/Village parking lot on St. Simons Island. Members meet in the parking lot in front of Brogen's Food & Spirits at 6:45 pm and begin promptly at 7:00 pm. Distances range from 2 to 5 1/2 miles at a variety of paces. Walkers, joggers, runners and cyclists are all welcome. Participants gather at Brogen's after for post-run refreshment, food and fellowship.

*Club Fun Runs for members are held at various times throughout the year. Notification of Fun Runs are via member e-mail postings.

*GITC Parties & Social Gatherings are throughout the year and members are notified through e-mail. Christmas, New Year's Eve, Super Bowl, St. Patrick's Day and several beach parties are normally held annually. Members and guests also gather at the summer "music in the park" outdoor concert events and picnic.

*Monthly GITC Business Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month at 7:00 pm; location is announced by member e-mail.

GITC Organizes Two Anual Races on the Golden Isles and also offers volunteer assistance to countless other races in the Southeast. The I Love the Beach 5K Beach Run in February was brand new in 2009. The 4th of July Sunshine Festival 5K & 1-mile runs hold a long tradition of the Golden Isles and are on the 4^th of July.

GITC Participates in a Variety of Community Endeavors. We have volunteered time to the Glynn County Special Olympics and CoastFest as well as participated in the local Down Syndrome Buddy Walk. GITC also assists in buying track supplies for Glynn County high schools and donates to member efforts in Relay for Life. GITCers support local high school track programs by providing manpower and finish line duties for state-wide cross country competitions held on Jekyll Island.

To become a member of GITC simply download the membership form on our main page and mail it to PO Box 20651, St. Simons Island, GA 31522. First time members receive their first membership free (January-December of any given year). Thereafter annual membership fee is $12/single and $18/family.
